AFC Bournemouth has apologised for how staffing changes were communicated to long-serving matchday workers.
The club issued its statement after emails were sent telling people their contracts would not be renewed for the 2026/27 season, including workers who had served for decades and one person approaching 60 years of matchday service.
Following concerns about the emails, it said the communication with some long-serving team members “did not reflect the standards we expect of ourselves as a club”.
AFC Bournemouth said those affected are being contacted directly so it can listen to their concerns and review each person’s individual circumstances before the new season begins.
The changes cover several matchday roles and working requirements, which the club said are intended to strengthen safety and security at the stadium, around its perimeter and in surrounding areas ahead of the new season.
However, it acknowledged that operational changes did not lessen the importance of treating long-serving workers properly, adding: “We should have handled this better, and we will do better.”
The club also thanked everyone who has contributed over the years, with particular recognition given to those whose service to AFC Bournemouth has continued for decades.
