Residents have returned to their homes after a police cordon in Christchurch was lifted.
A cordon remained in place in Suffolk Avenue following the discovery of a suspected explosive device inside an address at around 9.35am on Monday 15 June 2026. The item was found while officers were carrying out arrest enquiries and the area was secured as a precaution while further investigations took place.
During extensive searches of the property, officers located further possible explosive devices. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team carried out additional safety measures to ensure the items were made safe before the cordon could be removed.
The restrictions were lifted at around 6pm on Thursday 18 June 2026, allowing affected residents to return to their properties after several days of disruption.
A woman in her 60s and a man in his 30s have been charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a private place, failing to comply with shotgun certificates, failing to comply with firearm certificates and possessing an explosive substance with intent to endanger or cause injury or damage to property. Both appeared in court on Thursday 18 June 2026 and are due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 25 June 2026.
A man in his 60s has also been charged with the same offences. A court date has not yet been confirmed as he was taken to hospital for treatment relating to an unrelated medical matter.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Graham said officers recognised the impact on residents and thanked them for their support. He described the search as “very challenging and complex” and said the cordon was “absolutely vital” to ensure public safety. He added that police worked to lift the restrictions as soon as possible and was “really pleased” residents could now return home.
