Six care homes in Bournemouth and Poole have marked Dementia Awareness Week with resident activities.
Kanesbury Care, which runs Aranlaw House, Eagles Mount, Regency Manor and Branksome Park in Poole, and Kingsman House and Seabourne House in Bournemouth, focused the week on memory, music, friendship and family connection.
A new video released for Dementia Awareness Week, from 18 to 24 May, shows residents responding to familiar faces, music, photographs and shared memories, with the provider saying it wants to show life with dementia as active and connected.
One resident said: “I may not remember everything, but I still remember how kindness made me feel.” Another said: “My heart remembers you even if I can’t remember your name.”
Managing Director Sam Hoskins said residents are “not defined by their diagnosis”, but by who they are, who they have been, and the joy they bring to those around them.
Activities across the six homes included reminiscence sessions, arts and crafts, flower arranging, baking, gentle movement, garden time and social gatherings designed to support conversation, confidence and routine.
The provider says its dementia care includes ongoing staff training, personalised care plans, clear visual cues, calming décor, sensory spaces and a “home for life” approach, allowing care to adapt as residents’ needs change.
