Concerns raised over shop alcohol licence bid

A licensing hearing has been held into proposals by Seafront Mini Market to sell alcohol from its premises on Westover Road in Bournemouth town centre.

The shop originally applied to sell alcohol between 8am and 3am, alongside late-night hot food and drink sales.

However, following mediation with Dorset Police, the application was amended so alcohol sales would end at 11pm and late-night hot food plans were removed.

After the changes, Dorset Police and Millie Earl withdrew their objections.

Concerns were still raised by ward councillor Jamie Martin, the YMCA and BCP Council’s anti-social behaviour team.

During the hearing, representatives argued that additional alcohol sales in the area could increase anti-social behaviour and impact vulnerable people living nearby.

Speaking for the applicant, Jon Wallsgrove said the premises would be “an unbelievably regulated premises” and suggested staff could receive training to avoid selling alcohol to vulnerable individuals.

A decision on the licence application is expected within five working days.
