Residents have until Tuesday 28 April to apply for free voter ID before local elections.
Anyone planning to vote at a polling station in the Town Council elections on Thursday 7 May will need to show accepted photographic identification before being given a ballot paper.
Accepted ID includes a passport, driving licence and some concessionary travel passes, including an older person’s bus pass. Expired ID can still be used, as long as the voter is still recognisable from the photograph.
People without suitable photo ID are being urged to apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate by 5pm on Tuesday 28 April. Applications can be made online or through BCP Council for anyone who needs support.
Matt Pitcher, Head of Elections at BCP Council, said residents voting for town councillors in Bournemouth, Broadstone and Poole should make sure they are “election ready”.
He said some people may not have voted recently, or may have only recently turned 18, so it is important they check their ID or apply before the deadline.
Residents need their name, address, date of birth and National Insurance number, along with a passport-style photograph. Matt added: “The process is straightforward,” with help available by calling 01202 123400.
