Tom Hayes, MP for Bournemouth East, is encouraging residents to take part in the Government’s new NHS consultation, the largest of its kind in the history of the health service.
The consultation, launched by the Prime Minister and Health Secretary Wes Streeting, invites the public, NHS staff, and partners to share their experiences and ideas to help shape the government’s 10-year plan for the NHS.
With the Royal Bournemouth Hospital serving as a vital part of the community, alongside GP practices and community health organisations, Mr Hayes stressed the importance of this consultation for local people.
The 10-year plan will focus on making the NHS more resilient, modern, and community-based.
It aims to gather insights from those who rely on the service, work within it, and want to see it strengthened for the future.
Mr Hayes said: “As someone who led a mental health charity for five years, working closely with the NHS, I am deeply concerned about the challenges our health service faces.
“I’ve had the privilege of meeting with incredible staff at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, alongside NHS leaders, GPs, and third-sector providers locally.
“These are the people who know what’s needed to fix our healthcare system, and now the government needs to hear from these voices.
“The Prime Minister’s launch of this historic consultation is a chance for all of us to shape the future of our NHS.
“Whether you’re a patient, a healthcare worker, or a member of the local community, your experiences and views are essential.
“This is an opportunity to build a stronger, more resilient NHS, and I encourage everyone to take part and have their say.
“We’ve seen first-hand how dedicated and hard-working our NHS staff are here in Bournemouth, but they need more support.
“This consultation will ensure that their voices—and patients’—are heard.
“Whether it’s improving access to GPs or ensuring that patients receive quicker and more efficient care, people’s voices will be considered.
“Let’s make sure Bournemouth is part of that conversation.”
The consultation, accessible via the new online platform Change.NHS.uk, is open to the public until early next year.
It will play a key role in shaping the government’s health strategy for the next decade.
