The Sandbanks ferry service has suffered damage whilst being towed to its refit in Falmouth. It means the service will not be back as expected next month, but will be back in operation sometime in the new year.
The ferry undergoes a refit every two years and alternates between major and minor refits.
In a message on Tuesday afternoon, Sandbanks Ferry opeartors said: “Unfortunately during the tow the ferry suffered severe damage. The exact cause is currently under investigation, repairs delaying our return which we anticipate not until the New Year.”
During refit, the Ferry Office is closed for both phone calls and visits from the public. If you need to contact the company, email mail@sandbanksferry.co.uk.
Jason du Toit, the ferry’s Managing Director, said: “As with everything, the better we care for the ferry, the fewer disruptions to service we will have. I understand that during this time there may be an inconvenience and for that I apologise.
“However, refits are a time for us to ensure the vessel is safe and ready to carry passengers for the next few years.”
