Rushcombe First School in Corfe Mullen welcomed Schools Minister Georgia Gould and Vikki Slade MP for a visit to observe its distinctive teaching methods.
The visit focused on how the school delivers the national curriculum through drama and role-play, offering pupils immersive and interactive learning experiences.
Vikki Slade, MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole, invited the minister to showcase how Rushcombe’s approach could influence future education policy. She highlighted that the school’s creative and holistic curriculum allows teachers to share the joy of learning, saying her experiences at Rushcombe demonstrate this is possible.
Rushcombe First School uses bespoke ‘Learning Adventures’ to engage children, with the current theme, ‘The Call of the Wild’, encouraging pupils to explore environmental issues from their own perspectives.
Children collaborate to shape their inquiries and express their ideas creatively, applying knowledge gained throughout their learning journey.
The school also offers Philosophy sessions for children as young as four, aiming to nurture their natural curiosity and challenge them to develop new skills and understanding.
Rushcombe First School has been rated outstanding by Ofsted in all aspects since 2003.
