JP Morgan’s proposal for a five-storey office block and multi-storey car park in Bournemouth has been recommended for approval, but concerns have been raised about traffic and parking impacts on local communities.
The plans, part of the company’s long-term investment in the Chaseside Campus, would allow all employees to return to office working and include ground-floor food and drink facilities, flexible training spaces, and a two-storey decked parking structure.
The development would add 104 parking spaces, including more disabled spaces, but this increase has sparked fears of congestion and overspill parking in neighbouring areas.
Councillor Alasdair Keddie described the scheme as a “significant intensification of the campus” and highlighted the absence of a construction management plan.
Councillor Sharon Carr-Brown also expressed concerns that traffic and overspill parking issues have not been “properly addressed.”
BCP Council’s highways and public health teams warned of an “overprovision of car parking” and said extra vehicles would worsen congestion along Castle Lane East. The urban design team found the car park “acceptable due to limited glimpsed views,” but noted unresolved design issues.
A final decision is due from the eastern planning committee on July 6.
