BCP Council has raised a flag outside the civic centre in Bournemouth to show support for veterans, cadets and armed forces families across the area.
The ceremony marked the start of Armed Forces Week and was attended by portfolio holders, councillors, town mayors and members of the local Armed Forces community.
Councillor Lesley Dedman, chairman of BCP Council, opened the event and expressed thanks to serving personnel and their families.
Councillor George Farquhar, the council’s armed forces champion, raised the flag and highlighted the dedication and commitment of the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force.
He also acknowledged council staff who are reservists, veterans, or family members of those who serve or have served. Aidan Dunn, chief executive of BCP Council, spoke about the importance of the military and said the raising of the flag commemorates the sacrifices made by those serving the nation and honours their bravery and commitment.
Armed Forces Week runs until June 28 and recognises the contributions of current personnel, veterans, families and cadets.
