Kings Park Nursery in Bournemouth will be turned into a community hub focused on food growing and local engagement.
The site, which closed in January 2024 due to financial losses, will be redeveloped through a partnership between The Parks Foundation and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council.
The new plans were selected after an expression of interest process, with the aim of bringing the space back into use for residents.
Councillor Sandra Moore, cabinet member for communities and partnerships, said the council is committed to supporting The Parks Foundation as the project develops.
The Parks Foundation is working with Grounded Community, a Boscombe-based charity, to shape the hub around food growing and community activities.
Initial steps include tidying the site and running events to gather feedback and ideas from local people.
Community engagement events will be held at Kings Park Nursery from 3pm to 7pm on 25 July, 9 August, and 11 September.
John Hanson, chief executive officer of The Parks Foundation, said the team is keen to hear from residents and hopes the hub will bring people and nature together.
The Parks Foundation has previously worked with the council to improve more than twenty green spaces in the area, and also runs community cafés in several local parks.
