New Poole exhibition celebrates colour

A major new exhibition by Jason Wilsher-Mills is coming to Poole Museum this summer.

Life in Full Colour: The Art of Jason Wilsher-Mills will run from July 10, 2026, to January 3, 2027, bringing sculptures, inflatables, digital artworks and bespoke wallpaper to the museum.

The exhibition will take visitors into the artist’s imagined world, with mermaids, large figures, imaginative creatures and fish with feet forming part of the display.

Newly commissioned pieces inspired by Poole’s maritime heritage will be shown alongside work from across Wilsher-Mills’ career, including collaborations with disabled communities across the UK.

His work is shaped by his own experience, after a life-changing childhood illness left him paralysed for a year and led him to learn to paint using a brush held in his mouth.

Jason said the exhibition is “a real celebration of colour, imagination and storytelling”, adding that Poole had captured his imagination.

He said the museum’s figureheads “stayed with me and inspired new work for this show”.

Wilsher-Mills, who was awarded an MBE in 2025 for services to art and disability, said his work is about creating worlds “people can step into”.

Jaine Fitzpatrick, interim director at Poole Museum, said accessibility is central to the exhibition.

She said the museum will provide large print and easy read guides, audio interpretation and a dedicated wellbeing space, so the exhibition can be enjoyed by a wide range of visitors.
