Dorset Council is introducing changes to how special educational needs and disabilities reports are managed.
The council’s executive director of children’s services, Paul Dempsey, says a new central team and additional staff will help reduce the time spent preparing reports.
This is expected to give officers more time to communicate directly with families.
Plans also include the introduction of artificial intelligence to assist with report writing, which could save up to half a day per report.
Mr Dempsey said the changes aim to improve relationships with parents, which can sometimes become strained.
He acknowledged that families often need to advocate strongly for their children, particularly in SEND cases.
The council hopes the new approach, alongside a national government review, will improve the overall system and reduce pressure on families.
