More police officers for Bournemouth town centre
More police officers will be deployed in Bournemouth town centre to strengthen neighbourhood policing.
Dorset Police say 11 additional officers will join the local team, including 10 constables and 1 sergeant, as part of a wider investment that will see 40 officers move into neighbourhood roles across the force from April 2026.
The officers will focus on visible patrols in the town centre, supporting businesses, tackling anti social behaviour and investigating crimes affecting communities such as burglary.
Chief Superintendent Julie Howe said the increase means Dorset Police can provide “a stronger and more visible service” while continuing to respond quickly to issues affecting residents, businesses and visitors.
Police say hotspot policing over the past 2 years has contributed to a 22 percent reduction in serious violence and a 24 percent drop in robbery in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area.
Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick said increasing visible policing is a key priority and helps ensure people not only remain safe but also feel safe in their communities.
Councillor Kieron Wilson said the increase in officers is a welcome step in giving residents reassurance that Bournemouth town centre remains a safe place to visit.
