Poole special school plans more places for pupils
Plans have been put forward to create an additional seventy specialist education places at Winchelsea School in Poole.
The community special school currently supports up to 250 aged four to nineteen with a range of learning difficulties. Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council and the school are now proposing to expand provision from the 2026 to 2027 academic year.
Under the proposal, the starting age for pupils would change to two years old. This would allow early years education to be delivered through a new satellite nursery provision based at Stanley Green Infant Academy.
The change would create up to fifty additional places for early years, reception and key stage one children.
A further twenty places are planned within the school’s post sixteen provision, which operates from the Broadstone Youth Centre site and supports young people with life skills education and internship opportunities.
Winchelsea School also works with Broadstone Middle School to help some pupils access mainstream education where appropriate.
Residents and stakeholders can comment on the proposals through the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council Have Your Say website until March 27th.
