Masonic Lodges support BEACH Appeal

Children receiving care in Bournemouth are set to benefit from a significant donation supporting improvements to hospital facilities.

Masonic lodges from across the South West have donated £12,600 to University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity, helping enhance care for children and young people using the Children’s Unit.

The presentation took place at a charity workshop held in earlier this month, attended by lodge charity stewards and members from the region.

The funding will support the charity’s BEACH Appeal, which focuses on improving hospital environments beyond core NHS provision. Planned improvements include new play areas, child friendly artwork, updated equipment and work to transform the top floor of the BEACH Building at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, ahead of the Children’s Unit moving there later this year.

Mark Werner, South West Area Chairman, said members valued supporting a local healthcare project that delivers clear and lasting benefits for families. He said the appeal closely reflected Freemasonry’s values of community support and service.

University Hospitals Dorset Chief Executive Siobhan Harrington said the BEACH Building would provide a new home for children’s services and that local generosity would make a real difference to young patients’ care and experience.

The Children’s Unit is due to move into the BEACH Building in the summer.
