Local man thanks crew who saved him

A Bournemouth man has reunited with the South Western Ambulance Service team who provided the emergency care that helped save his life after he collapsed with severe chest pain near his home.

Sixty-four year old Ken Surtees called for an ambulance before losing consciousness, prompting paramedics to begin CPR and deliver defibrillator shocks while transporting him to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. He spent several weeks in intensive care and was discharged shortly before Christmas last year.

The reunion at Christchurch Ambulance Station gave Ken the chance to thank the crew, with a paramedic describing the moment as meaningful because they rarely meet people again after treatment.

Ken said meeting them was important to him and spoke about a steady recovery as he continues to build strength and return to normal routines.
