Care home raises funds for local dementia help
More than £1,300 has been raised by residents, staff and families at a Dorset dementia care home to support people living with the condition in their local community.
The funds were collected through a series of events held at Fernhill in Longham, operated by Colten Care, with fetes, gala lunches, garden produce sales and community choir performances involving residents, relatives, friends and team members over the past year.
A total of £1,313.15 was presented to Ferndown Dementia Friendly Town, the home’s chosen charity, which supports people with dementia and their families by offering guidance, practical help and community-based projects across the area.
Resident Robert Simpson attended the cheque presentation and described the group as a great cause, while representatives from the charity said the donation would support projects including allotment schemes, accessible facilities and local music events.
Fernhill home manager Lorraine Bell said the home was proud to back a charity that makes a meaningful difference to people affected by dementia, adding that maintaining strong community links remains an important part of daily life for residents.
Colten Care says community engagement is a key part of its wider dementia care approach, helping residents stay connected through social interaction and shared experiences.
