Poole appeal brings arts to local people
Lighthouse in Poole has begun its Big Christmas Appeal on Giving Tuesday, aiming to help local people who may otherwise struggle to enjoy theatre, music and cinema.
The appeal focuses on young carers, looked after children, families relying on foodbanks, children undergoing cancer treatment and older people experiencing isolation.
Organisers say the initiative gives children and adults the chance to enjoy live events throughout the year, offering respite, shared experiences and opportunities to develop an interest in the arts.
Chris Jarvis, who is rehearsing for Dick Whittington, said last year’s donations helped provide two thousand three hundred tickets to children, families and community groups.
He said many families look forward to the pantomime each year and added that attending live performances can help people learn, understand and enjoy time together. A mentor supporting looked after children said the appeal allowed young people to enjoy a show for the first time, adding that seeing them smile and sing along was a memorable moment.
The appeal aims to continue providing these experiences with the support of donors and audiences.
