Dorset training boost from HSU funding

Health Sciences University has secured capital funding to expand training facilities that will support Dorset’s future healthcare workforce.

More than £2 million from the Office for Students will be used to develop new teaching clinics and simulated clinical environments, helping to increase student placements and improve clinical readiness across the region.

The investment aligns with Dorset’s Local Skills Improvement Plan and national priorities to strengthen the supply of trained health professionals. It aims to meet rising demand for care as the county prepares for a higher proportion of older residents in the coming years.

HSU will repurpose existing space to create facilities including an oral health simulation suite with dental heads and haptic VR equipment, a multi-use ward for radiography and allied health training, an immersive VR room, and a digital delivery suite.

Professor Lesley Haig said the funding represents an important step in expanding clinical training capacity and supporting communities, adding that the work will help improve access to high-quality care for people across Dorset.
