Student news site wins award for AI feature
A Bournemouth student news website has won a national award for its in-depth reporting on how artificial intelligence is changing everyday life.
The Breaker, produced by Multimedia Journalism students at Bournemouth University, took first prize for Best Newsday Website at the Broadcast Journalism Training Council awards held in London on 20 November.
The win came from a field of entries submitted by more than three thousand journalism students across the country.
The recognition was awarded for a special feature titled Living with AI, which examined how new technologies affect dating, legal decision making, charities and religious organisations.

Co-editor Isabel Gallagher said the achievement meant a great deal and that working on the project gave her unexpected confidence. Torquil Hopper said the team effort behind the feature made the experience meaningful and offered an insight into the future shaped by AI.
Professor Chindhu Sreedharan said the project reflected the thoughtful and collaborative journalism encouraged on the university’s courses, adding that it was rewarding to see the students’ work recognised again.
Judges praised the Breaker for content they described as relevant and clearly focused.
The editorial team also includes Tom Dinh, Hannah Clubley and Karan Pratap Singh, who accepted the award from BBC News presenter Alice Bhandhukravi.
