Hut owners complain about Beach House
The Beach House Café in Mudeford is set to have its licence reviewed following complaints from beach hut owners about its operations.
The Mudeford Sandbank Beach Hut Association (MSBHA) submitted an application on 16 September requesting a review of the premises licence, citing concerns that it was not upholding the licensing objectives of preventing public nuisance, ensuring public safety, and protecting children from harm.
The association reported issues with noise, littering and public drinking, saying the café has shifted away from its original format to an open-air, festival-style venue that is negatively affecting residents and visitors.
During the public consultation, 24 representations were made in support of the review and one against. Two objections are supported by video footage which will be shown to councillors in a closed session.
The café’s licence holder has submitted a petition with 573 signatures supporting the premises, and the MSBHA provided a document containing personal impact statements from members.
In October, BCP Council approved plans for a new permanent replacement café building on the Mudeford Sandbank site, following the 2018 fire that destroyed the original Beach House Café.
The BCP Council licensing committee will consider the application on 12 November.
