Lighthouse Poole starts new family cinema with BFI
Lighthouse Poole is launching a new Family Cinema programme in partnership with the British Film Institute’s Film Audience Network, supported by National Lottery funding.
The initiative aims to give more families across Poole, Bournemouth and the wider area the chance to experience cinema together, with two screenings a month starting this October.
Lighthouse Head of Programming, Katy Griffiths, said the project would “create and support a new family film community” offering cinema experiences for families who might not otherwise be able to go. Each screening will include a themed arts and crafts workshop inspired by the film.
As Poole’s only independent cinema, Lighthouse is extending its usual mix of British, world and independent films with a new selection of family-friendly titles. Some screenings will also be relaxed, making them suitable for children who prefer a calmer environment.
The first Family Cinema events will feature The BFG on Saturday 25 October and Fantastic Mr Fox on Wednesday 29 October.
Neil Ramjee from Film Hub South West said the project would “enrich culture and bring communities together across Poole, Bournemouth and the wider south coast.”
Future films will include E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Bridge to Terabithia, The Polar Express, Arthur Christmas, Kensuke’s Kingdom, The Pirates! In An Adventure with Scientists! and Where the Wild Things Are.
