Three large mermaid tail sculptures from this year’s Great Tail Trail have found a new home on the harbourfront at Sandbanks.
They were bought at auction by Sandbanks resident Tom Glanfield, who placed them on the wall of his waterside property facing the entrance to Poole Harbour.
The sculptures helped raise over £200,000 for Julia’s House children’s hospice charity during a public art trail which took place across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole between April and June.
Tom, who previously made headlines in 2023 for buying a rundown bungalow on Sandbanks’ ‘Millionaire’s Row’, said he hoped the sculptures would be a “positive symbol” for the community and a reminder of the cause they supported.
The three tails now on display are ‘Breathe With Me’ by Lauren Marina, ‘Tattooed Mermaid’ by Becky Dodd, and ‘Fossil Fables’ by Karis Harrington.
Laura Maidment from Julia’s House said the display would help continue the trail’s legacy and offer something joyful for passers-by and boaters alike.
Julia’s House receives just 8 per cent of its regular funding from government and needs to raise over £5 million this year to continue its care.
