Specialist dementia support will be available in Poole next week as Admiral Nurses from Dementia UK return to host a free clinic at Nationwide’s local branch.
The face-to-face appointments will take place on Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 July at the Nationwide branch in Poole, giving residents the chance to speak in confidence about dementia in a private and supportive space.
The sessions are open to anyone affected by dementia and offer tailored advice on topics such as memory loss, diagnosis, progression of the condition, and practical guidance on legal or financial matters.
Ahead of the clinic, Dementia UK has released tips for those trying to talk to a loved one who may be showing early signs of dementia. These include choosing the right moment to have a conversation, reassuring the person that symptoms could be linked to other conditions, and offering help with arranging or attending a GP appointment.
One person develops dementia every three minutes in the UK, but getting an accurate diagnosis can often be difficult.
The Poole clinic forms part of Nationwide’s Fairer Futures programme. As part of this initiative, the building society is supporting the work of 30 dementia specialist Admiral Nurses and aims to have hosted dementia support clinics in 200 branches by the end of the summer.
Appointments can be booked through the Dementia UK website.
