Dorset Police are increasing patrols and putting dedicated plans in place to keep residents and visitors safe during the Bank Holiday weekend.
With large events including Bournemouth 7s and the Christchurch Food Festival attracting crowds, the Force has confirmed extra officers will be on the streets to respond to increased demand.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Callaghan said Dorset remains one of the safest counties in the country and stressed the importance of responsible behaviour. “We want everyone to act responsibly – you will see us out and about in hotspot areas and we will be taking appropriate action against anyone who is acting anti-socially or committing criminal offences.”
He confirmed that high-visibility patrols will form part of Operation Nightjar, which focuses on policing the night-time economy. Additional operations are already in place to support the busy weekend.
Mr Callaghan thanked officers and staff for working through the holiday period and urged people to use online channels to report non-emergencies to reduce pressure on phone lines.
Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick also issued a welcome to the many expected visitors. He said: “Please don’t come to Dorset with the intent to cause trouble. We have worked hard to reduce anti-social behaviour and serious violence.”
Visitors and residents are encouraged to enjoy the area safely and respectfully.
