A leaflet containing helpful home safety tips has been distributed directly to homes and estate agents across Dorset.
The Police and Crime Commissioner’s Home Safety leaflet in collaboration with Dorset Police, offers proactive advice on how to keep homes secure against criminals.
The leaflet was originally published in 2024 as part of a collaboration between the OPCC and Dorset-based estate agent, Symonds and Sampson, and was aimed particularly at new homeowners.
Now, it has been developed to include advice for anyone buying or renting a new home, and sent to estate agents across parts of Dorset, Propertymark, a membership body for property agents to distribute to members across the county, as well as Business Improvement Districts and Chambers of Trade and Commerce.
Dorset Police Cadet groups have also been busy distributing the leaflet directly to houses across parts of Dorset as well.
Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner, David Sidwick said: “I know burglary is one of the top five concerns for people in Dorset and that’s why it is important that everyone knows how to secure their homes and make it difficult for those who want to target our homes and possessions.
“Dorset is a safe place to live, and I want it to stay that way.
“So, while I will continue to hold the Force to account for their part in apprehending offenders, we can all do our bit to ensure we don’t make it easy for these despicable criminals to cause us harm.
“This leaflet simply reminds people of the easy steps they can take to protect their own homes.
“I would urge estate agents to use this resource to ensure their clients have the most up to date, professional, police-approved advice on offer, and ensure their clients’ new homes, stay safe and happy homes.”
The leaflet is available digitally on the PCC website.
