
A fire at Ferry Road on Studland caused the partial suspension of Sandbanks Ferry on Friday afternoon.
The fire service were called to reports of a fire in the open at 2.35pm. Crews from Swanage, Poole, Wimborne, Hamworthy, alongside a water carrier from Ringwood (Hampshire & Isle of Wight FRS), three lightweight off-road vehicles from Swanage, Hamworthy and Poole and a high volume pump from Christchurch attended.
DW Fire service said: “Firefighters are working hard to contain the fire and bring it under control.
“They are using multiple hose reel jets, main lines and multiple beaters to extinguish. The road is currently closed until further notice.”
Morebus services are diverted as a result, and the fire can be seen from around the Bournemouth and Poole coastal areas.
Sandbanks Ferry added: “The ferry service is currently suspended due to a fire on Ferry Road, the police have closed the road. We will update as soon as we have more information. We are still taking passengers visiting the boat yard, National Trust car park and Shell bay Restaurant as well as passengers travelling back to Sandbanks from Studland.”
Service was resumed in the early evening.
Update: Friday 18 April, 7.45am A crew from Swanage are currently on scene dampening down remaining hotspots. An investigation into the cause will take place when it’s safe to do so.
