Celebrations as Bournemouth and Poole College wins prestigious national apprenticeship award

Bournemouth and Poole College is celebrating after winning the award for ‘Best New Apprenticeship Programme’ at the national Apprenticeship and Training Awards.

It received the recognition for its Level 2 Semi-Skilled Boat Builder Apprenticeship, delivered in collaboration with Sunseeker International Ltd.

The programme was selected from over 600 nominations.

It’s delivered through the Sunseeker Skills Academy, based at the college’s Poole campus.

The academy plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of the marine sector, adding approximately 100 new employees to Sunseeker’s boatbuilding workforce each year.

The Level 2 Semi-Skilled Boat Builder Apprenticeship provides learners with hands-on experience, industry-leading training and the opportunity to develop essential skills required to excel in careers within the marine sector.

The award follows the visit by Prince William, who toured the Sunseeker Skills Academy last month.

During his visit, the Prince observed the progress of some of its apprentices and learned first-hand how the programme can transform lives by offering valuable career opportunities within the marine industry.

Antony Carr, Executive Director of Higher Education and Skills, said: “Winning this award is a testament to the hard work, dedication and innovation of our college team, as well as the invaluable partnership we have with Sunseeker International.

“Together, we are equipping the next generation of skilled professionals for the marine industry.”

Bournemouth and Poole College educates 10,000 students each year.

It is the largest educator of 16-18 year olds in Dorset and one of the largest apprenticeship providers in the country, working with more than 1,000 employers.
