Local restaurant donation supports new garden for Hope residents

A donation of £595 from Rick Stein Sandbanks will fund a new vegetable garden for residents at Hope HTS, a service supporting people out of homelessness.

The charity, based on St Swithuns Road South, has helped more than 2,700 people into safe accommodation, as well as providing support and counselling.

Three of those residents, Gary, Stephen and Mark, visited the restaurant to meet staff and say thank you in person.

They were joined by Hope Founder and CEO Julie Berti, who explained how the money will be used to create a garden where residents can grow their own food.

The project is designed to help residents build life skills, improve wellbeing and enjoy time outdoors.

Stephen said: “Lauren told us that the money was raised through customer donations, which is great. It’s been nice to come and meet her and hear about the restaurant and its fundraising for ours and other local charities.”

Julie Berti said: “Hope’s model gives people like Stephen, Mark, and Gary a roof over their head, followed by counselling and guidance, so they can go on to become self-sufficient and move on from Hope as valued contributors to the community.”

The restaurant’s Guest Services and Events Co-ordinator Lauren Mole said customers were keen to support a local cause and were pleased to hear the donation would be used in such a positive way.
