Dorset firms urged to back young carers

Dorset employers are being invited to support young carers as they plan future careers.

MYTIME Young Carers is launching its annual Summit, with this year’s event focused on employability and the opportunities available to young people who care for others.

The MYTIME Employability Summit: Unlocking Potential will take place at Bournemouth University on 4 November 2026, bringing young carers and employers together to explore work experience, mentoring, workplace insight and career pathways.

The event is being delivered in partnership with Bournemouth University and already has support from AW Social Value Consultancy, HGW Solicitors, Streetwise HR and the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.

MYTIME is now encouraging more employers from across Dorset to take part and help young carers access future opportunities.

The charity says the Summit comes after the Government’s Young People and Work report identified young carers as one of the groups most at risk of becoming not in education, employment or training, with a rate of 23.1 per cent.

Krista Cartlidge, Chief Executive of MYTIME Young Carers, said: “The challenge isn’t talent. The challenge is opportunity.”

She said the event would bring “incredible young people” together with organisations ready to make meaningful change.

Businesses attending will hear guest talks, join workshops, meet young carers from across Dorset and explore practical support including mentoring, workplace visits and work experience placements.

Businesses interested in attending the Summit or finding out more are encouraged to register their interest here.
