Discussions are underway to secure part of the former Poole Civic Centre for use by Poole Town Council.
Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council has confirmed it is in talks with the town council to retain a section of the Grade-II listed building, which has been empty since 2022.
The building stopped functioning as a civic centre after the formation of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council in 2019. The local authority has agreed to sell the building to MCR Property Group, with the sale expected to deliver significant annual savings.
A document from October 2025 set the proposed rent for the retained section at over £450,000 per year.
Councillor Mike Cox, Deputy Leader of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council and Cabinet Member for Finance, said the council recognises the local connection to the former civic centre and supports retaining part of the building as part of the sale agreement.
Talks are ongoing about leasing a ‘vertical slice’ of the building, including the council chamber, mayors’ parlour and the Cattistock room, to Poole Town Council.
The town council hopes to use this area for meetings and community events.
