New care home proposed in Christchurch

A new children’s care home has been proposed for a residential house in Christchurch.

Plans would convert 2A Elm Avenue into a home for up to 3 children and young people aged between 7 and 17, alongside 2 staff members living at the property.

Wild Orchid Therapeutic Services Limited, which already runs an Ofsted registered home in Christchurch, says it would prioritise placements for local children and young people through the proposed new service.

Submitted documents say the home would support children with emotional, behavioural and developmental needs, providing a secure and family-like environment to help them recover from trauma and significant disruption.

The proposal would work with the local authority’s Children’s Services and aims to create a setting where children feel “valued” and “listened to”, with opportunities to develop relationships.

Its approach would be child-centred, with care arrangements considering the wishes, feelings and views of the children and young people living there.

The planning application is open for consultation until July 20 under reference P/26/02844/FUL.
