A man is due to appear in court after being charged following investigative work by officers into a report of a sexual assault in St Ives, East Dorset.
Dorset Police received a report at 1.51am on Sunday 27 July this year that a woman in her fifties had been sexually assaulted by a man in Avon Castle Drive.
The incident is reported to have taken place shortly before the call to police, at around 1.30am.
Following enquiries, 28-year-old Eshwin Soobhug, a Mauritian national of Windmill Lane in East Dorset, was arrested in connection with the incident. He defines himself as being of Asian Pakistani including Asian British ethnicity.
After further investigation, he has been charged with sexual assault by penetration and is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 16 August this year.
Detective Chief Inspector Nicky Jenkins, of Dorset County CID, said the woman is receiving ongoing support. “The victim is continuing to be supported and has been updated with the developments in the investigation,” she said.
She added that the case is now subject to active court proceedings and stressed the importance of allowing the justice process to take its course. “We would therefore urge members of the public to refrain from speculation or commentary relating to this case, particularly online and on social media.”
