Council tenants in Bournemouth and Poole will see rents increase by nearly five per cent from April after plans were agreed at a full council meeting.

From the 2026 to 2027 financial year, average weekly rents in Bournemouth will rise by £5.25 to £114.67, while in Poole they will increase by £5.21 to £113.84. Councils must set rent levels in line with government policy, although they can choose to apply a lower rise, freeze or reduce rents.

Garage, base and parking plot rents will also increase. In Bournemouth and Poole Old Town they will rise by 4.8 per cent, while in the rest of Poole they will increase by 11 per cent. Changes will vary for council and non council tenants.

The Housing Revenue Account budget confirms £43million will be invested in major works across housing stock in Bournemouth and Poole, with a further £25million for planned maintenance. This will include upgrades to kitchens and bathrooms, roofs and windows, building safety measures and central systems.

Over the next four years, £2.3million will be spent improving energy efficiency in council homes, followed by £2.8million each year to reduce carbon emissions. There are no council owned homes in Christchurch. Members agreed the plans by consensus.
