Disabled bus pass holders in BCP can now travel more flexibly under a new trial.
The scheme, launched by BCP Council and Morebus, started on Monday 1 June and applies to holders of a Disabled Person’s English National Concessionary Travel Scheme pass who live in the BCP area.
It allows eligible residents to use buses before 9.30am and after 11pm on weekdays at a reduced fare, where the journey starts within Bournemouth, Christchurch or Poole.
Travel between 9.30am and 11pm remains free, while weekend and Bank Holiday travel continues to be free at all times. The trial also includes night buses, supporting residents who travel outside standard daytime hours, including shift workers.
Councillor Andy Hadley said concessionary passes help people reach shops, healthcare services, community activities, family and friends, as well as work, education and training.
He said: “We want to support those journeys,” adding that if the trial is successful, the council will work with bus operators to explore extending it and potentially making it permanent.
The scheme is funded through the Government’s Local Area Bus Grant, with funding allocated from BCP Council’s 2026/27 allocation.
There are around 6,500 Disabled ENCTS pass holders in BCP. The trial does not apply to Older Persons’ bus passes, and its impact will be monitored before future decisions are made.
