Climate group tours Dorset Eco Park

A local climate group has toured Dorset Eco Park at Parley near Christchurch.

33 members of BCP Climate Partners were taken behind the scenes at Eco Sustainable Solutions’ 32-acre Chapel Gate Eco Park, where they saw how food, green and wood waste is processed.

The visit was the fifth meeting of the group, which brings together organisations and representatives from Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole to share ideas, experience and best practice.

Eco Sustainable Solutions currently converts more than 230,000 tonnes of local organic waste each year into soil improver, landscaping and horticultural products and renewable energy.

Those attending included representatives from BCP Council’s sustainable travel and planning teams, Bournemouth University, Brittany Ferries, BH Area Hospitality Association, Dorset Community Energy, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks and South West Net Zero Hub.

Martin Gardner, Sustainability Officer: Climate, Resources and Sustainability at BCP Council, said Eco Sustainable Solutions operates with “circular economy and sustainability principles” in waste management, reuse and recycling.

He said its work in the BCP area and collaborations with the council “greatly supports” efforts to reduce the environmental impact of local waste streams.

Previous visits by BCP Climate Partners have included Sunseeker International, Poole Harbour Commissioners, Bournemouth University and Arts University Bournemouth.
