A decision is due on plans to keep wooden beach decking at Branksome Chine for longer.
Rockwater has applied to extend permission for its existing wooden decking on the beachfront, with documents confirming the site is leased from BCP Council and that temporary consent was originally granted in February 2023.
Planning papers describe the structure as a “small section of natural wooden decking” with planters around the edge, designed to sit within the existing beach environment while supporting activity linked to nearby businesses and community use.
According to the submitted design and access statement, the decking is used as a casual seating space throughout the day and evening, and also provides a meeting point for local sports groups and beach clubs, particularly before Rockwater opens.
The documents highlight that the area is already used by a range of community groups who gather nearby, and say the decking helps support that activity in a more structured way without significantly changing the setting.
Planning officers have been told the proposal would have only a “minimal” impact on the character of the beach and surrounding area.
The application, listed under reference P 26 01573 FUL, is open for public consultation until 23 May, with a decision expected to be made by council officers.
