Flats plan approved near Branksome Chine
Changes to plans for four flats near Branksome Chine have been approved despite local concerns.
The development at 16 Lakeside Road in Poole was originally approved in April 2025, but councillors were asked to consider amendments to the scheme, with objections raised about cliff stability, overdevelopment, parking pressures and the impact on neighbouring properties.
Nine objections were submitted, including concerns about drainage and piling in an area affected by coastal erosion, with one resident warning of risks linked to “the integrity of the piling” and an “unprotected eight metre” drop near the site.
Ward Councillor Gavin Wright also raised concerns, saying while the amendments themselves were “not particularly concerning”, there were wider issues around how the development had progressed, including reports of excavation difficulties and possible damage to nearby buildings.
Planning officers advised that damage to neighbouring properties could not be considered as part of the decision, and said a council geological engineer had assessed the site and was satisfied the cliff slips were not caused by the development.
After debate, councillors approved the amendments by 6 votes to 2, with 1 abstention.
