Council agrees sale of vacant care home

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council has agreed to sell a vacant care home in Christchurch and a former day centre in Poole.

Councillors approved the disposal of Queensmead Care Home and the Commercial Road property at a full council meeting on March 24.

Queensmead has been empty for four years after a storm caused significant damage to the roof in 2022.

Residents from the 40-bed care home were relocated to alternative accommodation and the building’s leaseholder later surrendered the property.

A council report said the building no longer meets modern care standards and is generating ongoing security and maintenance costs.

A former day centre at 12 to 14 Commercial Road in Poole will also be sold.

The site, which includes a modern office building and converted Victorian villa, is currently unoccupied and has experienced several break-ins.

The council says both sites have potential for redevelopment, although it is not yet known how much the properties could sell for.
