Town council elections set for May vote

Residents in Bournemouth, Poole and Broadstone will vote in new town council elections in May.

BCP Council has issued the official notice confirming elections for the three town councils will take place on 7 May 2026 following a decision by councillors in October 2025 after a community governance review.

The review resulted in the creation of three new town councils, with Bournemouth approved by 51 percent of the vote and both Broadstone and Poole approved by 54 percent.

Polling stations will open from 7am to 10pm on election day and residents who wish to vote must be registered, be 18 or older and live within Bournemouth, Broadstone or Poole.

Residents can also apply to vote by post or nominate someone to vote on their behalf through a proxy vote, with application deadlines set in April.

Anyone voting in person will need to bring valid photo identification such as a passport, driving licence or bus pass.

The council has also reminded residents to check their polling card as some usual polling venues may not be available.
