Council housing upgrades plan approved

Plans to upgrade council homes in Bournemouth and Poole will move forward after funding approval.

BCP Council’s cabinet agreed a programme of improvements on 26 March funded through the Housing Revenue Account, made up of tenants’ rents, covering maintenance, repairs and long term investment while also supporting planning for council housing over the next 30 years.

The plan aims to improve the energy performance of homes below EPC C by 2030 through better insulation and upgraded heating systems, while also delivering new kitchens and bathrooms alongside replacement windows and doors in properties across the area.

Work will take place in phases, beginning with neighbourhoods where improvements are most needed, and residents will receive clear information before work begins explaining what will happen and when the changes will take place.

Councillor Andy Hadley said he would like to see ambitions go further, explaining it is about fuel poverty for residents with the least money, while Councillor Sandra Moore said keeping homes warm while reducing heating costs remains a key priority for tenants.
