Crime awareness week backs local firms

Bournemouth businesses have been supported through a week of activity tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.

The initiative took place across the town centre and brought together businesses, Dorset Police, BCP Council and BID teams through events, visits and engagement work, all aimed at improving reporting, sharing intelligence and strengthening partnerships.

During the week, BID teams worked directly with levy-paying businesses, offering guidance and encouraging the use of a reporting system to help record incidents and share information more effectively with key partners across the area.

Events also created opportunities for businesses to raise concerns, including sessions with a Councillor and police officers, where issues such as retail crime, reporting processes and visibility were discussed in open conversations.

A lunchtime session on cyber security highlighted risks facing smaller firms, while joint patrols focused on known hotspots, with town rangers and council officers engaging directly with businesses and monitoring behaviour.

An exclusion notice scheme was also highlighted, allowing businesses to act collectively against repeat offenders, with 3 notices already issued.

One organiser said “positive engagement” had been seen, adding that a joined up approach is key to improving safety and helping businesses feel supported.
