Food waste collection deadline will be missed by council

BCP Council will miss the government deadline to introduce weekly food waste recycling.

Under national recycling reforms, councils are required to collect food waste from all households in England by 31 March as part of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs simpler recycling policy.

BCP Council previously confirmed that 102673 households in Bournemouth and Poole will begin receiving weekly food waste collections from 6 April 2026.

Christchurch households have already had food waste recycling available since 2012.

The rollout of bins across Bournemouth and Poole began in February 2026, with homes receiving a kitchen caddy and an external food waste bin.

Flats with communal bin areas are being supplied with kitchen caddies and shared external food waste bins, with deliveries expected to continue until 27 March.

Residents are also provided with one roll of liners when their caddy is delivered, with further compostable liners available to purchase online or from supermarkets.
