Hospital submits 713-space car park plan
Plans have been lodged for a temporary 713-space hospital car park.
The application, submitted by University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, relates to land at Wessex Fields beside Royal Bournemouth Hospital and follows the purchase of the remaining site from BCP Council in December 2025 as services are reorganised across east Dorset.
Work has already taken place to remove topsoil and trees, create new access routes, lay out parking areas, alter nearby footpaths and roads, and install 75 streetlights, 10 wall mounted lights, gates, fencing, signage and associated landscaping.
Access is via the newly constructed Seacole Way, with 604 spaces to the south for staff and visitors and 109 to the north for staff only, increasing overall parking provision to 2,111 spaces after construction work reduced on site capacity.
Planning documents describe the car park as “an interim step” while proposals for a multi storey facility are developed, noting the total remains below the 2,340 space cap set under earlier outline permission, with the application under consideration until March 26.
