BCP area ahead of climate targets in report

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole is ahead of schedule in meeting key climate targets, according to BCP Council’s latest annual report.

The update for 2024 and 2025 shows greenhouse gas emissions across the area have fallen by 18 per cent since 2019, while domestic energy emissions are down by 21 per cent, putting the area on track for a lower carbon future.

In twenty nineteen, BCP Council declared a climate and ecological emergency, committing its own operations to be carbon neutral by twenty thirty and supporting the wider area to reach carbon neutrality by twenty forty five, five years earlier than the national target.

Since the previous report, solar panels have been installed at Two Riversmeet Leisure Centre, one hundred and thirty additional electric vehicle charging points have been added, 37 hectares of heathland have been restored and four hundred and thirty three new homes have been built to high EPC A and B standards.

Councillor Andy Hadley said the encouraging figures show the area is in a stronger position to take the bold steps required to achieve meaningful progress towards its climate targets and highlighted plans to improve bus services and walking and cycling routes across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
