Boscombe Pier entrance set for repairs

Structural repair works are planned at Boscombe Pier to address safety concerns.

BCP Council has applied for listed building consent to replace the underside of the concrete roof at the entrance building after corrosion caused cracking render, rusting steel mesh and damage inside the shop units beneath the flat roof.

Planning documents describe the condition of the entrance structure as “failing and dangerous”, with inspections by the council’s building surveying team identifying corroded structural supports and deterioration that has led to internal issues for traders operating from the pier.

Loose and friable materials have been removed and temporary safety netting installed to reduce risk while longer term plans are considered, with proposals showing the existing render and support structure replaced by stainless steel and new flat roof coverings.

The entrance building, constructed between 1958 and 1960 and listed as Grade II in December 2004, is now subject to consultation under application P/26/00551/LB, with comments invited until March 13.
