BCP invests £7.7m tackling potholes and roads

BCP Council is set to spend £7.7million repairing potholes and improving roads across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole in 2026/27.

The investment forms part of a four year capital programme focused on improving travel infrastructure, upgrading crossings and delivering long term resurfacing designed to reduce potholes while making regular journeys safer, smoother and more reliable for residents.

Of the £7.7million allocated for 2026/27, £5.8million will fund resurfacing, preventative patching and micro asphalt treatments on roads and pavements. A further £800,000 is earmarked for structure maintenance, £580,000 for street lighting and £513,000 for traffic lights and crossing maintenance.

The wider programme proposes a total of £38million for highway maintenance by 2029/30, enabling longer term planning and delivery. Last year more than 2,500 potholes were repaired, with a 12.7 per cent reduction in reported potholes year on year.

Councillor Andy Hadley said the significant investment would upgrade key roads, improve crossings and modernise traffic management to help keep people moving and support local growth.

The report will be considered by the transport advisory group on February 25 and by Cabinet on March 4.
