Arts by the sea festival to return

Arts by the Sea will go ahead in 2026 after BCP Council secured funding from Arts Council England to support the festival’s extension year.

The annual celebration of art, culture, people and place was launched by the council in 2011 and has been organised by Arts Council England since 2015. In 2025, the three day event featured more than 150 performers, including live music, circus acts, aerial artistry and community performances across Bournemouth.

BCP Council confirmed its £150,000 contribution will be removed from the 2026 to 2027 budget. However, festival reserves, staff resources and sponsorship support will still be provided. A bid has also been submitted for grant funding to deliver the festival in 2027.

Councillor Andy Martin, cabinet member for customer, communications and culture, said the event remains a key part of the cultural offering across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole and confirmed a successful bid to Arts Council England means the festival will take place in 2026.

A petition calling on the council to continue matching funding received 69 signatures, below the threshold required for debate at full council.
