A Bournemouth campaign is focusing on improving access to support during Sexual Violence Awareness Week.
Safer BCP is marking the national week by highlighting local services and encouraging people affected by sexual violence to seek help safely and with confidence.
The partnership says sexual violence remains widespread across the UK, with one in four women, one in eighteen men and one in six children affected. It adds that sexual violence against men is significantly underreported, with many survivors feeling invisible or unsupported, creating barriers to getting help.
As part of the week, Safer BCP is promoting an online awareness campaign, specialist training and a dedicated drop in support event for male survivors at Bournemouth Library. The session brings together organisations including BCHA and Victim Support in a private space.
Online training is also being offered to staff and partners, covering trauma awareness, recognising abuse carried out online or through digital devices, and how to support someone who needs help.
Councillor Kieron Wilson said support is available locally and raising awareness helps reduce stigma. Chief Superintendent Julie Howe said partners are committed to ensuring victims are treated with dignity and supported to come forward.
The Support for Male Survivors drop‑in event will take place on Saturday 7 February, between 1:30pm to 3:30pm.
